August 26th 1789 - The declaration of man and citizen is signed, laying the foundations for new universal principles. From the Menus Plaisirs room to the Jeu de Paume oath, Versailles is the scene of 5 months of stories resonating around the world.


Let's meet to relive the path of the deputies, the effervescence of a changing world, the hope of another and the foundations of our Republic, followed shortly after by the Women's March and the final departure of the royal family October 6, 1789.

Our itinerary

We will leave from the Palace of Versailles (place d'Armes) to reach by the avenue de Paris, the hotel des Menus Plaisirs where the opening of the Etats généraux took place on May 5, 1789, the proclamation of the national assembly on June 17 and the abolition of privileges the night of August 4-5.

Then, like the deputies of the time, we will join the Jeu de Paume room, where they swore to give a constitution to France on June 20, 1789.

We will pass by the place Saint-Louis place of the debates and work meetings, to then return to the place d'Armes, place of arrival of the women's march on October 5, 1789 and departure of the royal family on October 6.

Working in Versailles in historical tourism for 10 years, we realized that these places were very little known to visitors and were able to gradually refine this route. We want to shed light on the foundations of our republic to visitors.

Meeting place : under the statue of Louis XIV, 1 place d'Armes, in front of the Palace of Versailles.
