A brief overview of the city

Located in the Yvelines department (78), just twenty kilometers west of Paris, Saint-Germain-en-Laye is a city rich in historical and cultural heritage. Once a royal residence, it was the birthplace of many French kings, including Louis XIV in 1638.

Dominating the city is its majestic château (Château Vieux), now home to the National Archaeology Museum, offering a remarkable journey through French history from the Middle Ages to the present day. The famous terrace of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, designed by Le Nôtre, provides an exceptional view of the Seine Valley, Paris, and the La Défense district.

Surrounded by a vast national forest, Saint-Germain-en-Laye is also a city focused on nature and leisure, known for its walking trails, bike paths, and green spaces. Its lively city center, shops, markets, and cultural facilities make it an attractive place to live for families and visitors alike.

A dynamic and elegant city, Saint-Germain-en-Laye harmoniously combines history, quality of life, and proximity to Paris, making it one of the most emblematic towns in the Yvelines.
